Please note this is only a tutorial that shows you the steps how to request your tax transcript from the irs.gov . Thoughout this guide we illustrate our steps with a pointing arrow to the screen shot we took. We hope this will help you. We understand that unless you are on a dual monitor screen, it maybe hard for you to follow these steps while you are requesting your transcrip online, so we recommend that you just get familiarize yourself with the steps in this post, we also would be sharing a word version of this post for your convenience, you can click "file"> Print> recommend print in color, if you have a printer, or a nearby library or office store you can print the word below after your reading, so you can follow these steps easily from your mobile devices, Example: cellphone, laptop, or tablet, etc..

Step 1.
Go to irs.gov  using the ID.me create an account option



Step 2 

Locate the search box then type “tax transcript” in the search box then click the search icon as illustrated below with the pointing arrow

Step 3 

You should land in this page below then you click “Get Transcript” as illustrated in the arrow below

Step 4

Next you would click on visit or  create your “Online Account” as illustrated below with the pointing arrow.


Step 5 

Next you would click on “Sign in to your Online Account” as illustrated with the pointing arrow below

Step 6 

Don’t have an account yet? Please note we based our illustration assuming you did not have an account yet, in this example you would click “ID.me Create an account” as illustrated with the two pointing arrow below


Already have an Account? If you already have an online account with irs.gov then you can sign in to your online account by clicking “Sign in with ID.me” or sign in with “Sign in with an existing IRS username”  or Sign with an existing IRS username”

Step 7.

Next you would enter your “email” “password” and “Confirm Password”  then click the small box   then click on “ Create account” as illustrated with the pointing arrow below. Please note your password must meet these requirements “uppercase letter” “lower case letter” “number” and “at least 8 characters  as shown, here is an example:  Example1

After that you click “Continue” as illustrated on the page bolow

Step 9 

Go check your email for the 6 verification code then you will copy and enter that 6 digit verification code sent or click on confirm email from the email itself  as illustrated below. Please note you have up to 15 minutes to complete email verification otherwise you will need to “resend my verification” as illustrated below


Step 10 

After that you will choose an option to  make your account secure, please note in this illustration we are choosing the “ Text message or phone call” option so we clicked the blue links that says “Text Message or Phone Call”

Step 11 

After that you will choose how you want to access your account, text or call then enter the code in the Phone Number field as illustrated with pointing arrow below. Please note for this illustration we selected “Text Me” as the method to receive the secure code

Step 12  

After that we entered the code received from the text message that was sent and clicked on “Continue” as illustrated below 

Step 13

After you land to the “NOW YOUR ACCOUNT IS SECURE” page   click on continue as illustrated with the pointing arrow below

 

Step 14 

After that you will select which way to identify yourself, then click on continue as illustrated with the pointed arrow below,  please note in our illustration we selected the “Self-Service” option, which is the fastest way


Step 15

After that we selected the acknowledgement box, we scrolled down to read terms, and we clicked on continue as illustrated below

Step 16

After that we wanted to verify our id with a driver license and entered the US based phone number, then clicked continue. Please note other options are also available to change the document that suits you and other non-US based number and in case you do not have a smart phone as illustrated below with the pointed arrow below

Step 17

After that, check your phone number that you entered for a text message from ID.me, click the link  to upload your document, please note we selected driver license in our case

Step 18

After  you upload your docs you will be directing to this page to enter your social security with no space, all the number together and click continue as describe below




Step 19

Click on view tax record as illustrated below with the pointed arrow below  as illustrated below with the pointed arrow below

click on Get transcript as Click on view tax record as illustrated below with the pointed arrow below

Step 21

click on the  drop down to select reason you need select a tax transcript please note in our example we chose income verification, but your reasons may be different  as illustrated below with the pointed arrow below

Step 23

click the on the year you want your return transcript for and in this example we are selecting 2021 , and 2020 for our purposes, but your need maybe different as illustrated below with the pointed arrow below


        Success!

In the event that you can not successfully request it online you have other options to request your transcript by calling the IRS yourself, per IRS When using Get Transcript by Mail or calling 800-908-9946, the primary taxpayer on the return must make the request for more info other options follow this link below
